Reusable Blocks in WordPress : what it is, what is the use case ?
Since WordPress 5.0, users has seen a new editor into the CMS named Gutenberg. It brings straight into the core of the CMS more than one feature for building more easily your websites pages.
With the help of the community, this feature has been improved to allow us to build smoothly posts, widgets, menu and more things without the need of installing an external page builder plugin (Elementor, WP Bakery, Beaver Builder etc … ).
The concept is to split the page you’re building into part named blocks, these blocks are like Lego pieces.

It requires your imagination to be able to turn a sketch, a mockup, into a page at the end of the process.
Contrary to the page builders whose require all the module integrated been loaded first before displaying a page, a page built with blocks load quickly.
By loading quickly, it means your page load won’t take more than two seconds, that will improve your position on search engine result page (Ex: Google/Yandex/Bing/etc…).
With Gutenberg, you dispose of a variety of blocks

If you are getting used to the Gutenberg blocks, you may one day realized, you may need to reuse a block you already built before.
How would you do it ?
Here come the Reusable Blocks.
The Reusable Block allows you to save a block or group of blocks which you can later use in any post or page on your site. If you are often adding the same content to the same block or group of blocks, using the Reusable Block will save you time and effort.
How to use the Reusable Block ?
Let’s say you have a paragraph block which you regularly fill with the same text at the end of your post. This could be everything from how to get in touch to your business hours to your social media accounts. To avoid having to add the same content to a paragraph block every time you want to place it at the end of your post, you can make it a reusable block. To accomplish this, follow these steps:
- Select the block or blocks you want to turn into a reusable block.
- Click on the three dot menu that opens up the additional settings.
- Click on “Add to Reusable Blocks”.
- This will open a prompt where you can then name your reusable block. Make sure to be descriptive, so you can easily find it in the future.
- Select “Save” to confirm the creation of the new reusable block.
You’ll then be able to locate the reusable block among the other blocks inside the Reusable Blocks section of the Block Inserter:
After getting started with the Reusable Blocks, once back into the WordPress dashboard, you may notice there is no menu for adding,
editing or creating new Reusable Blocks. It’s like that, because by default WordPress this feature is hidden.
In order to be able to see it into the WordPress dashboard, we may need a WordPress extension named : Reusable Blocks Manager.
This is an extension we built to make it easy to create, reuse, manage and import Reusable Blocks easily within the WordPress dashboard.
Just straight forward, once activated, you’ll see into your dashboard a menu section named Reusable Blocks, into this screen you’ll see the Reusable Blocks you’ve created.
